Yoga, originating in India in ancient times, offers a holistic approach to maintaining a healthy body and mind, the word yoga meaning "union". The practice of yoga is suitable for everyone, regardless of age or ability.
Hatha Yoga is the most widely-practiced form of yoga in the West, with classes combining limbering and warm-up movements, asanas (postures), breath awareness and guided relaxation. Many are drawn to yoga for general health and fitness, others for the management of stress, and it can be an excellent therapy in the rehabilitation and maintenance stages following physical injury. Classes provide a general introduction to yoga and regular practice, whilst 1:1 sessions are tailored for the specific requirements of your condition.
Yoga for Sports classes include flexibility, strength and conditioning, building breathing capacity for power and endurance, and the use of a variety of techniques for mental focus and stamina. 1:1 Yoga Sports Coaching focuses on performance through work specific to an athlete’s training and their sport, and it is one of the few areas of performance coaching which can fill the gap, often frustrating for athletes, between treatment for injury and the return to full training.
Yoga is specifically designed to enhance health in pregnancy and work towards childbirth and post-natal health, incorporating flexibility and posture work, breathing techniques for both pregnancy and birth, and relaxation. It helps increase awareness of and confidence in the body and mind during this critical time, aids sleep and relaxation and can relieve pregnancy-related discomforts such as backache.
